  1. Upon startup, when prompted to enter the Adaptec Embedded SATA HostRAID BIOS, press the CTRL+A keys.

     

  2. In the Adaptec Embedded SATA HostRAID BIOS, select Array Configuration Utility.

     

  3. Select Create Array and press the ENTER key.

     

  4. A list of the available hard drives is displayed.

     

  5. Select each hard drive, and then press INSERT (or INS) to add it to the array. You must select at least two hard drives to create an array. The array properties are displayed.

     

  6. On the Array Type field, select RAID 1(Mirror), and then press ENTER.

     

  7. If desired, enter an array name next to the Array Label field. Press ENTER to continue.

     

  8. A dialog box appears with the options Build, Clear and Quick Init. A description of each option is listed below.

     

    Build - Copies data from a source drive to a target drive. This option can be used to upgrade a single drive configuration to a RAID1 configuration.
    Clear - This option creates the array and writes zeroes to all the hard drives in the array. Do not select this option if any of the selected hard drives contain unrecoverable data.
    Quick Init - Creates the array without initializing or overwriting any data on the selected hard drives. This option can be used if the configuration on the HostRAID controller has been cleared or if you have known good configuration written on the hard drives.

     

  9. Select an appropriate option and press ENTER to continue.

     

  10. Select Done, and then press ENTER to create the array.

    Note: You can still press ESC at this point to cancel the array creation.

     

  11. If you chose Quick Init, the following message appears:

    “Creating a RAID 1 using Quick Init may require you to run a VERIFY W/FIX using OS utility to make drives consistent.”

    Press any key to continue.

     

  12. If you chose Clear, the following message appears:

    “Clearing the array may take half hour or more to complete. Also, the array is not accessible until the Clearing is over. Do you still want to continue? (Yes/No):”

     

  13. Enter Y for Yes to proceed with clearing the array. A progress screen appears.

     

  14. When the array has finished clearing, the following message appears:

    “Clearing the array is successfully completed!”

     

     

  15. Press any key. You are returned to the Array Configuration Main screen.

     

  16. If you chose Build, you are prompted to select the source drive. Select the drive which contains the data you wish to copy and press ENTER. The following message appears:

    “Building the RAID 1 may take half hour or more to complete. Do you still want to continue? (Yes/No):”'

     

  17. Enter Y for Yes to proceed with building the array. A progress screen appears.

     

  18. When the array has finished building, the following message appears:

    “Building the array is successfully completed!”

     

  19. Press any key. You are returned to the Array Configuration Main screen.
